Teaching Assistant

WHAT?

The Music of The Beatles is one of the most popular courses at the University as it goes through the timeline of the most influential band in history, weaving through their albums, singles, and personal lives to create a holistic story of the band that spans the entire semester. I took this course in the Spring of 2019 & fell completely in love with it. For some reason I had a surge of confidence and reached out to the professor about being the TA- and he said yes! In this role, I attended all class meeting times, ran the classroom email, set up the equipment before class, proctored exams, collected in- class assignments, & managed the grade center on Blackboard.

SO WHAT?

NOW WHAT?

This was one of the best experiences that I have had in my academic career so far. I loved every minute of this experience because not only was I bettering myself, but I was working with my passions- music and helping others. This experience mainly taught me about organization and time management- especially since I could not miss a class time and my professor was counting on me to always have the correct grades in the grade book and to be helping those with questions over email. I also learned a lot about working with students from different backgrounds and on different paths than myself. Another great takeaway is my Blackboard skills since I was creating announcements, managing assignment submissions and utilizing the grade center. I am excited to learn about Canvas next year, since I will be continuing this position in the fall.

As mentioned above, I will be continuing in this position next fall. I am super excited to work with Professor Klug again, since over the school year he has become a faculty member that I feel as if I can trust and who is there to support me in my endeavors. This experience has also given me new perspectives when it comes to working with students, which will be very useful in my positions in the Learning Commons (Peer Leader & SI Leader). This has also reinforced my passion and love for the Beatles :)

This academic year, I served as the Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Music of The Beatles. This experience has allowed me to become more connected within the University and has helped in developing my professional and interpersonal skills. I will be continuing in this position for the next school year to spread my love for the Beatles to others!
